How to overcome the fear of public speaking.
On our daily life, we experience situations that cause us great nervousness, especially those when we know that we were required to give a talk or a presentation in front of an audience, a client or friends.
If we are not used to be in those situations, sometimes we just try to postpone the preparation of the material thinking that we can get over using our natural skills to get out of the situation. Procrastinating to dedicate the required time to make it better, but our fear stops us start.
The butterflies we feel in our stomach appears constantly and keep on coming from the moment we have the notification for the presentation, during the preparation and even remain after the presentation is over.
Sorry to tell this, but it is a fact that the nervousness we feel when we are in front of the audience will never be eliminated at all. You just get used to it and control and sometimes enjoy it.
The methodical and constant practice will help you reduce that sensation and allow to concentrate on the message you are giving more than in what the public might be thinking at that time.
Our recommendation to overcome this fear is to prepare yourself in advance, review the material you have to present, practice as much as you can and don’t expect that something will come to your mind at that moment and enlighten your mind.
Any preparation time you dedicate for the presentation will greatly improve the possibilities of having better results, and the end, the moment will give you satisfaction for the effort and work done.
Try to know your audience in advance so you can understand the detail level you need to put on the session. Be prepared for any questions they might have.
Before you go to the meeting try to calm down with some meditation techniques and breathing exercises that will allow you to reduce that nervousness.
Finally, after the presentation is done, evaluate what was the result and ask for some feedback from the attendants to understand their perception.
